The Houston Texans have faced challenges protecting their quarterback and establishing a strong running game in recent seasons. Improving the offensive line is crucial for the team’s success. Free agency offers an opportunity to bring in experienced linemen who can provide immediate impact. This post highlights some of the top offensive linemen the Texans should consider pursuing to strengthen their front line.

Why the Offensive Line Matters for the Texans

A solid offensive line creates the foundation for both passing and rushing attacks. It protects the quarterback from pressure and opens lanes for running backs. The Texans have struggled with injuries and inconsistency along the line, which has contributed to offensive struggles. Adding reliable veterans in free agency can help stabilize the unit and mentor younger players.

Key Offensive Linemen to Watch in Free Agency

1. Isaac Seumalo – Guard

Seumalo ranks as one of the NFL's leading pass-blocking guards and would be an outstanding addition to the Houston Texans. He achieved a pass blocking grade of 75.8, placing him 4th out of 81 guards. The former Steeler is also known for his low-pressure rates allowed, and he played nearly every snap last season. If the Texans can sign him to a cap-friendly deal, then it would be a huge boost to the offensive line and help keep C.J. Stroud upright.

2. Cesar Ruiz – Guard

Ruiz is another guard who provides durability and experience on the offensive line. Allowing only 3 sacks and posting a pass blocking grade of 73.1 per PFF, Ruiz could be another solid addition to the offensive line that desperately needs pass blocking help. This would likely have to be via a trade, and Texans fans know GM Nick Caserio is not afraid to make trades. A possible scenario is a 2026 5th-round pick, but Caserio always has some magic up his sleeve.

3. Tyler Linderbaum – Center

Linderbaum is the top target this offseason. Securing Linderbaum would immediately enhance the Texans' center position and overall offensive line. Although the cost will be substantial, there's hope the Texans can make it happen. Linderbaum achieved an overall PFF grade of 80.3, placing him 5th among 40 NFL centers. With a 97.2% pass block win rate, tying for 2nd out of 31, the Texans definitely need this. Whether and how it will happen remains to be seen.

What the Texans Should Prioritize

  • Versatility: Players who can fill multiple positions on the line help cover injuries and create matchup advantages.

  • Experience: Veterans who have started many games bring leadership and reduce rookie mistakes.

  • Run Blocking: Improving the run game will take pressure off the passing attack and help control the clock.

  • Pass Protection: Keeping the quarterback upright is essential for offensive rhythm and scoring opportunities.

Final Thoughts

The Houston Texans have a clear need to improve their offensive line through free agency. Targeting versatile, experienced linemen can provide immediate upgrades. These players bring the skills and toughness needed to protect the quarterback and open running lanes. Strengthening the offensive line will give the Texans a better chance to compete and build a more balanced offense moving forward.
